Samuel Gregg, b. 4 May 1773, Loudoun, Virginia
Patriarch of the Springboro Line of Greggs
Samuel's great, great grandfather, William, came to the New Continent
in 1682, as a convert of Wm Penn to the Society of Friends.
Subsequent Greggs moved to Delaware and then
Virginia. The lineage is derived from the Scottish clan MacGreggor.
Our "Springboro Samuel" left Virginia with his wife Nancy Ann O'Brien and traveled the Ohio River to reach an
outpost east of Cincinnati. They then traveled to a blockhouse in Deerfield. Here the first daughter, Rebecca, was
born, reported to be the first white female born in this area.
